New Media Coordinator For Arab World Project - Greenpeace International


Greenpeace Arab World Project (AWP) New Media Coordinator bears overall responsibility for the development and maintenance of Greenpeace's Arabic online presence

Responsible to: New Media Unit Head
Location: The position will be based in Egypt, is open to Egyptian nationals, and will require travel within the Arabic speaking countries.

Purpose

The purpose of the New Media Coordinator is to increase Greenpeace Mediterranean's (GPMed) profile and to engage individuals via online advocacy primarily in Egypt and Jordan.

The position purpose is to:

Ensure that members of the public and our supporters receive our campaign messages and are engaged in our campaigns via our website, social web, online actions (petitions, letter writing etc) and other methods of online mass mobilisation.
Have responsibility for updating, maintaining and developing GPMed's website and social networks.
Lead and direct the operations of the New Media Unit in meeting its responsibility to acquire and retain fans and followers via new media (online and mobile communications).
Work with other departments (particularly Program Department) to ensure integration of new media practices in GP Mediterranean's campaigns strategies

Responsibilities

Website - Social Web

Ensure regular updates to our website and social networks. Contribute to GP Med's New Media communication strategy and development.
Ensure that the website act as an archive with relevant and up to date campaign materials.
Ensure that the website visuals, graphics and videos meet the certain standards.

Community information

Develop and maintain Greenpeace Mediterranean's presence in targeted online platforms.
Maintain our Facebook Page and Twitter account, posting content on the wall, preparing updates to fans and followers, uploading pictures and video, creating polls, moderating and answering comments.
Establish a network of online bloggers, promoters, and multipliers who can enhance widespread distribution of Greenpeace stories, videos, images, and animations and encourage viral distribution.
Innovate ways to promote digital campaigns among existing Greenpeace audience groups and online communities and develop new ways to reach out to new audiences.
Work with Program Department to engage supporters in campaign objectives through activities such as e-petitions, email and letter writing, volunteering etc.

New Media Management

As a member of the New Media Team, maintain a high commitment to Greenpeace values and meeting campaign goals.
Contribute to the development and effectiveness of GP Med's New Media Department and GP Med as a whole. This includes: contribute in developing and implementing department strategies, plans and supporting and communicating decisions taken by the Director of Fundraising and New Media, other Directors, the Executive Director and the Board.
Manage the communication and working flow with digital agencies.
Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned by the New Media Unit Head.

Skills and Qualifications

Technical skills

Hands on experience in updating and developing websites. Experience in supporter or membership communication, with a particular focus on supporters and new media. Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and Photoshop (or similar photo editing software).

Leadership qualities

Committed to furthering Greenpeace's campaign goals as well as the organizational development of GP Mediterranean. Able to inspire team spirit and resolve conflicts. Awareness and knowledge of local and regional socio-economic, political environment.

Management qualities

Capacity to prepare and present detailed and realistic social media communication strategy. Able to support and guide staff and volunteers, manage multiple projects, work to a timeline, work with sensitive information, work with minimal supervision.

Communication

Excellent verbal and written communication editing, online writing and content management skills. Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.
