The Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a board certified Urologist. The KCVA is a tertiary care facility that is highly affiliated with the University of Missouri-Kansas City and University of Kansas School of Medicine.  The incumbent is accountable to the Chief, Surgical Care Service for assuring the most effective delivery of care in Urology while meeting and exceeding compliance standards.  Position will involve clinical duties and opportunity for clinical or basic research.  State-of-the-art clinical facilities are available including new operating rooms constructed in 2003.  The following are duties and responsibilities: assigned as a clinician-educator or clinician-researcher to the Urology Section of the Surgical Care Service.  The position includes a major role in the clinical, administrative and educational programs of the Urology Section.  The incumbent will provide attendance on the consult service, providing comprehensive consultative support to all inpatient services.  The incumbent also sees continuity and referral of patients and will be responsible for accepting consults from the western region of the VA's Heartland Network VISN 15.  The incumbent will have a minimum of two ½ day clinics at the KC VAMC.  Affiliation with the University of Kansas and/or University of Missouri-Kansas City Schools of Medicine is required.  The incumbent provides educational training for Fellows and Resident physicians. Administrative duties could include sectional, surgical care service responsibilities along with serving on hospital and university affiliated committees, i.e. Tumor Board.  The incumbent may also be assigned other administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and research service, task group or special project groups and quality management/quality of care responsibilities.

Must be proficient in spoken and written English. Board Certified in Urology preferred. Reporting to the Jury Administrator, the Jury Specialist position assists in the management of the overall jury system's petit and grand jurors and is responsible for assisting with the system's efficient operation.  The incumbent performs a number of duties related to the selection, qualification, summoning, orientation, management and payment of jurors.

  • Processes payments and reimbursements for jurors; prepares attendance certificates on behalf of jurors.


  • Processes returned summons to include typing and preparing excusal letters.

  • Maintains and updates demographic and other information on juror candidates.

Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The successful candidate must at a minimum have a high school diploma or the equivalent.  A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred.  Education above high school level may be substituted for general experience.


Prospective candidates should have a minimum of two years responsible specialized experience to include use of specialized terminology and demonstrated ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws.  


Legal/court experience preferred but not required.


Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to effectively communicate. The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is critical.


Excellent organizational skills, the ability to respond to requests on short notice and the ability to manage multiple tasks and stringent deadlines are essential.


Must be proficient in Word Perfect and other computer applications.
