Columbus VA Ambulatory Care Center (VAACC) is seeking a dynamic experienced nurse leader for our Nurse Executive position. The incumbent reports to the VAACC Director, and is an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team. The incumbent is directly responsible for the professional nursing practice across the continuum of care, and is responsible for the clinical and administrative leadership for approximately 178 full time equivalent employees, including 114 Registered Nurses, 48 Licensed Practical Nurses, and 16 Nurse Practitioners.  He/she has responsibility and accountability for planning, directing, and coordinating the nursing care provided throughout the VAACC and in four (4) community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), as well as direct authority over Sterile Processing. He/she will plan, develop, and maintain comprehensive nursing programs to ensure compliance with VA Directives, The Joint Commission standards, Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitative Facilities standards, and other internal/external regulatory requirements. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional communication skills and role model transformational leadership skills.
Columbus VAACC is a new state of the art facility which opened on November 12, 2008 and is located in Columbus, Ohio. The Columbus VAACC was built to handle more than 400,000 visits per year and was designed with the flexibility to add two additional floors should changes in workload or mission occur in the future. The facility is actively pursuing a capital expansion plan which will bring the total facility space to 500,000 net square feet over the next several years.
VAACC serves veterans from 13 counties of Central Ohio, including Franklin, Hardin, Morrow, Knox, Coshocton, Union, Delaware, Licking, Muskingum, Madison, Perry, and Morgan.  The VAACC has Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) located in Grove City, Marion, Newark, and Zanesville, and is also the parent facility for the Veterans Readjustment Counseling Center (Vet Center) located in downtown Columbus. Approximately 250,000 veterans reside in the clinic's Primary Service Area. Last year, VAACC served approximately 34,000 veterans and completed over 398,000 annual visits. VAACC currently employs over 900 staff, including physicians, nurses, administrative and support staff.
Columbus VAACC is a high-growth facility, as it projects approximately 451,000 visits for fiscal year 2011, and expects the number of veterans cared for to increase to 35,000. The facility offers services in primary care, same-day surgery with full anesthesia support, and comprehensive specialty services including mental health, audiology, optometry, dental, prosthetics, cardiology, gastroenterology, renal, neurology, dermatology, ENT, and orthopedics. Planned expansions of service include for enhanced surgical offerings in non-invasive vascular lab, Mohs surgery and anatomical pathology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, thyroidectomy, cataract and additional eye surgeries, additional urological surgeries, enhanced specialty offerings, expanded urgent care center hours, sleep studies lab, and an open MRI. Veterans requiring urgent and emergent care are admitted to local hospitals.  Patients requiring specialized care are transferred to VISN 10 Medical Centers.
